Yes, I went, I'm always disappointed, not sure what I wished was there and wasn't though.

Yep, went to buy some equipment and to see the Lagoon 42. Confirmed that the mast is held up by a steel beam across the boat! I couldn't believe that was true, but Lagoon sales guy confirmed it.

Yes went on the thursday. It was interesting enough. We are halfway through our Lightwave 45 build and no buyers remorse ...... apart from maybe the Aston Martins :-)

Interesting, and I wonder why steel rather than aluminium?

Well that explains some of the weight of the boat. 12.8 metres and 12 tonne dry, bloody heavy

Weight aside, because most of it would be more due to the "monocoque" thick heavy layup, I wonder how long before deterioration of the steel sets in? They use peroxide catalysts in the hardeners if I'm not mistaken ( somebody may confirm that?) so wrapping steel in resin sounds like a very silly idea to me.
I guess it will get through the warranty period though, so no problemo, eh?

Ally bends too easy and fatigues. The forces of mast compression can be huge and cyclic.

Glen,
are you going with the Outback Lithium battery option?
Cheers

Re: Sanctuary Cove Boat Show
Yes.....one of the advantages of waiting so long the technology has matured. LoL. We will go with about 900kw solar and a small 4 kva genset to drive the dive compressor. Start up in rush currents will be supplied by the Victron unit supplementing the genset. Talking with the outback marine guys was well worth the price of entry...

900kW solar? Are you on an aircraft carrier? That'll need somewhere around 5,000 square metres of panels (About a football field worth).

The technology has matured in an exponential way.
Along with the 900kw solar option they install a planing hull conversion kit yielding a cruise speed of 50 knots and a top end of 70 knots...
(I gotta get one!)

I have been watching Outback Marine's system for a while. What type of genset are you using?

Re: Sanctuary Cove Boat Show
Hi I did speak with Gary from Outback at the show. He doesn't sell the new FP 4000 gen set, but took me over to the FP guys to show me the unit. it was certainly very compact, and has some very nice features.
However, decided to go with the Paguro 4000 unit, as it was a fraction lighter and couple of k cheaper....(have to start drawing the cost line somewhere, and would rather put $ into the sails) . Roger at Lightwave has had reasonable experience with the Paguro's to date re reliability.
I am assuming with my 900kw NO wait, only 900w solar , high output alternators, and the rapid charging capacity of the Lithium's, we will not be using the gen set much more than for driving the Bauer Jnr II compressor......might be wrong.
