Greg Robinson recently lost his job as the Rams’ starting left tackle, and his tenure with the team might be cut short.

The Rams on Tuesday declined to pick up the fifth-year option on Robinson’s rookie contract. That means Robinson will become a free agent after the 2017 season unless the Rams sign him to a new contract.

That seems unlikely, given the way things have been trending. Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft, has come under increasingly scrutiny for poor play and penalties, and in March, the Rams signed veteran Andrew Whitworth to replace Robinson at left tackle.

Robinson, listed at 6-foot-5, 332 pounds, was inactive for two games last season, and new Coach Sean McVay said the Rams will attempt to transition Robinson to right tackle in 2017.

A contract for a first-round draft pick is for four years, with a team option for a fifth year. The Rams recently decided to pick up the 2018 option for star defensive tackle Aaron Donald, but they would like to sign Donald to a long-term extension.
