Gov. Mark Dayton has declared Thursday, Oct. 13, to be "Prince Tribute Day" in honor of Prince Rogers Nelson, who died April 21 of this year.

A tribute show to memorialize the late Minnesota native and huge pop star is being held Thursday night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, featuring artists Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Christina Aguilera, Morris Day & the Time and Tori Kelly, among others.

The celebration is expected to be reminiscent of the festive year of 1999.

"Prince and his phenomenal talents led an era of music and showcased Minnesota to the world," said Dayton in a statement. "Today, we honor a magnificent artist, celebrate his great legacy and thank him for always making Minnesota his home," he said.

This is the second day in which Dayton has honored Prince. June 7, Prince's birthday, was declared "Prince Day" in Minnesota.

Today has been busy for Minnesota music aficionados. Minnesota native Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature Thursday, which Dayton called "fantastic" at a morning news conference. He said he has been listening to Dylan for more than half a century, and that a proclamation is forthcoming.
