Anyone who has seen Burn After Reading can attest that Brad Pitt can be funny. Anyone who has seen Brad Pitt on Friends can attest that he can also be as wooden as Monica Geller's kitchen table. And it was more of the latter comedy stylings that Pitt brought to a surprise cameo on American television this week, appearing as a chipper weatherman during a brief skit on The Jim Jefferies Show.

Pitt, who last provoked giggles by moodily reclining across various American landscapes for GQ Magazine, was brought onto the Aussie comedian's show to present a weather forecast. In light of Donald Trump exiting the Paris Agreement, Pitt excitedly declared "there is no future" after promising blazingly hot weather across the United States.

Neither Pitt nor Jefferies have commented on the circumstances of the cameo, and the pair appear to have had no prior working relationship – but Pitt has been on something of a post-divorce comedy tour, with OK! Magazine reporting that he has been concerned he is now seen as a "monster" in light of his mud-slinging split from Angelina Jolie. Gossip Cop claimed the story was made of lies, however.

Last month Pitt also made a cameo on Stephen Colbert's late night US talk show, where he and the comedian lay on a blanket looking up at the stars and pondered time travel and the universe as a whole.

Based on that and his GQ profile, Pitt seems to have embraced the new image of "existential middle-aged surfer dude", a role left vacant in Hollywood's A-list ever since Matthew McConaughey went all legit. We'll see how it pans out.
