Brit Awards 2017: full list of winners, from David Bowie to Beyonce

The Brit Awards are the biggest event on the country's musical calendar, and we'll be listing all the winners here as soon as they are revealed. For more Brits news, follow our up-to-the-minute live blog, or check out our gallery of all the stars at tonight's ceremony.

Brit ICON: Robbie Williams

The one-time Take That frontman is only the third winner of this particular gong, joining Elton John and David Bowie. It's impressive company for the self-described "idiot from Stoke on Trent". 

British Artist Video - 'History' – One Direction

The only category voted for by the fans was always likely to favour Twitter-idols One Direction. Sadly, Liam Payne was the only Directioner available to collect the award.

International Female Solo Act - Beyoncé

Single-handedly preventing riots in the street, Beyoncé owned 2016 with her career-defining opus Lemonade and thoroughly deserved this win. But the high standard of this category, facing off against sister Solange, Christine and the Queens and a never-better Rihanna, exemplifies the incredibly high quality of mainstream female musicians right now.

International Male Solo Act - Drake

Another expected win, but solidly understandable: Drake has become one of the music industry's shining beacons, his lo-fi R&B a major influence on music trends, while his streaming power is one to be reckoned with. Plus we were at least saved a win by another dead legend, which is always welcome.

Global success - Adele

Because Adele had to get a trophy somewhere. "It means the world to me," she said in her acceptance video, filmed from somewhere far away. "I'm somewhere pretty dry - hence the fake bush behind me, to make it look like I'm somewhere nice." But where was she? We're stumped.

British Single with Capital - Little Mix, Shout Out to My Ex

Capping a stellar year that seemed to propel the four-piece girl band into a realm that completely eclipsed the group's TV talent show beginnings, Little Mix took home the Best British Single award for their infectiously catchy Shout Out to My Ex. It's also an interesting moment of girl group symmetry: 20 years ago, this category was won by Wannabe, otherwise known as the debut of the Spice Girls.

International Group - A Tribe Called Quest

Hip-hop legends, absolutely, but a win that feels more like a tribute gong than one based on their 2016 comeback album, released in the wake of the death of band member Phife Dawg early last year.

British Female Solo Artist - Emeli Sandé

Despite universal acclaim for newcomers and fellow nominees Nao and Anohni, it was old MOR favourite Emeli Sandé who ended up triumphing. She previously took home the same prize in 2013.

British Group - The 1975

While their debut album I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It continues to trounce all others as possessing of one of music's worst ever album titles, their win here is generally deserved. With their post-modern stadium-ready anthems, they're one of the UK music industry's sole pop-rock bands to find mainstream success in recent years.

Mastercard British Album of the Year - Blackstar, David Bowie

Yes, he's dead, but that hasn't stopped Bowie picking up Best British Album for his final, undeniably bittersweet masterpiece. Read our five-star review

British Male Solo Artist - David Bowie

Once again -- yes, he's dead. While his win will likely spark controversy ('Dead white male beats four living black ones' just isn't a good look), it's hardly unearned for his decades of once-in-a-lifetime brilliance, having only won this category twice before. He's probably cringing over it somewhere, though.

British Breakthrough Act - Rag'n'Bone Man

An expected win, on the heels of his Brits Critics' Choice win, but not an all-together undeserved one. Rag'n'Bone Man has soundtracked much of the past year in music, his vulnerable, gravelly blues record Human becoming a major Top 40 hit.
