Elegant Hotels, the AIM-listed Barbados group, will launch its latest luxury hotel and spa this week.

The group, which floated in London last year, said that the 70-room Waves Hotel in Barbados, acquired for $18 million, had been “extensively redesigned and refurbished”.

The listed hotel group accounts for 29 per cent of Barbados’s four and five-star rooms, running the Colony Club, Tamarind, The House, Crystal Cove, and Turtle Beach. It also runs Daphne’s restaurant, a favourite of celebrities such as Simon Cowell, Claudia Schiffer and Gerard Butler.

Sunil Chatrani, chief executive of Elegant Hotels, said that Waves would be earnings enhancing for the year by the year ending September 30, 2017 and said: “We are thrilled to have officially opened the doors of Waves to visitors, and are extremely pleased with the early feedback that we have received from customers and travel agents alike.”

In April this year, the group recruited Richard Jones, a former finance director of Cineworld as its chief financial officer, ahead of a wider expansion across the Caribbean.
