Briton ‘raped and beaten’ in five-week Outback ordeal

A young British woman was allegedly kidnapped and repeatedly raped, assaulted and choked during a horrific five week-long, 900-mile ordeal across Australia’s Outback.

The 22-year-old backpacker, thought to be from Liverpool, was rescued at about 5pm on Sunday in a bloodied and highly distressed state in Queensland after she failed to pay for fuel and a service station worker alerted police.

They pulled the white Mitsubishi Pajero over at Mitchell, about 400 miles west of Brisbane, and found the terrified and injured woman behind the wheel. She appeared to have broken bones in her face, bruises and cuts, police said.
