Angelina Jolie is a Hollywood actress accustomed to the adoration of millions of fans, but confessed that the prospect of giving her first university lecture to a group of postgraduates had her “feeling butterflies”.

Jolie, a United Nations special envoy for refugees, has become a visiting professor at London School of Economics. Stunned students reportedly did a double-take as she strode across campus.

She gave her first lecture yesterday, speaking to a class of master’s students from a range of postgraduate disciplines taking a course on women, peace and security.

Jolie is one of four visiting professors contributing the one-term course. Also on the roster is Lord Hague of Richmond, the former foreign secretary who held the brief when Jolie launched the campaign against rape
