A teenage friend of the Munich killer has been questioned over suspicions that he knew about Ali Sonboly’s intentions and could have alerted the authorities to prevent the massacre on Friday evening.

Detectives have said that Sonboly chatted with his friend shortly before the attack and that the 16-year-old knew Sonboly had bought a weapon on the dark web. The police claim that the friend was also aware of Sonboly’s obsession with Anders Breivik, the Norwegian far-right terrorist who killed 77 people in 2011. Sonboly killed nine people and injured another 37 at a shopping centre in Munich, using a Glock handgun.
