The most hotly anticipated show on the fashion calendar finally arrived, but the billowing drama of the 87th Academy Awards was woefully undermined by a severe shortage of noteworthy gowns.

As the crowning evening on the red carpet calendar, designers traditionally hold back the very best of their sartorial arsenal in the hope that the night’s big winners will accept their trophy adorned in the house’s finest. It seems that perhaps this season their patience floundered.

Early to the red carpet was Anna Kendrick, reprising her role as Cinders from Into the Woods in a one-off Oscars special. Kendrick mirrored her modest alter-ego in a coral Thakoon peekaboo dress - befitting a modern Disney princess.
