The Minnesota Children’s Museum’s $30 million St. Paul expansion and renovation is nearly complete, and its grand opening is set for June 7.

The museum will throw a block party on June 17, with free museum admission and activities and entertainment outdoors. The next day is a Target Free 3rd Sunday, with free admission.

A limited number of “sneak peek” tickets go on sale at noon today, for June 2 to 6.

The downtown museum closed in December for the work. The project added 10 exhibits — including two four-story climbing towers, spiral slide and netted catwalk — as well as a cafe, coffee bar and skyway-level entrance.

The renovation also aims to appeal to older kids more than before. A laser maze, air-powered ball launchers and a tinkering studio are designed to appeal to kids up to age 12.

“We’ve created a bigger, better and bolder children’s museum,” said Dianne Krizan, museum president. “Families will find ways to play, explore and learn together like never before.”
