Having been on a UK tour, the new family musical Mr Popper's Penguins makes its West End debut at the Criterion Theatre this Christmas. The play, adapted from Richard and Florence Atwater's book – which was made into a film starring Jim Carrey – follows Mr Popper on some Antarctic adventures as he meets Captain Cook and Greta the penguins.

We caught up with furry friends Greta and Captain Cook in their dressing room in London to find out what they can't live without backstage.

The Powder

Before each show, Greta likes to powder her face to avoid excess feather shine.

The Music

Captain Cook listens to his iPod to make sure he is flapping in time to the music.

The Cup of Cocoa

Captain Cook enjoys a cup of cocoa before having a chill in the freezer.

The Skype Session

Greta enjoys a nice long skype session with her friends in the South Pole.

The Laundry

Greta likes to help out by sorting Mrs Popper’s laundry between shows.

The Magazine

The penguins like to spend their breaks catching up on the latest news and events.

The Fishy Rice

A pre-performance fishy meal is a must for performing penguins.

The Feather Spray

Greta likes to keep her feathers in place with a good spritz of feather-spray!

Mr Popper's Penguins runs at the Criterion Theatre from 15 to 31 December.
