For the joke to be successful, it's all about the delivery. And apparently MTV Australia didn't get that memo when the network posted an offensive tweet on its Twitter account on Sunday night (January 10) during the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.

 "Where are the English subtitles? We have no idea what @AmericaFerrera and @EvaLongoria are saying," the tweet said. 

MTV Australia deleted the post, but not before one tweeter took a screen shot and reposted it for proof. You can see it below.

So what prompted the tweet in the first place? Both Eva and America joked about being confused for other Latina actresses and wanted to jokingly clear the air. "Hi, I'm Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes," Eva says.

And after all the times she's been mistaken for a Jane the Virgin star, America responds with, "And hi, I'm America Ferrera, not Gina Rodriguez."

It didn't take took much time for MTV Australia to figure it all out and quickly apologized on Twitter.
