Misspelled names and phrases, child-like cartoons and other questionable choices of ink.

We've all made mistakes, and for some that mistake is in the form of a tattoo. Lucky for (most) of us, we don't have the public eye on us at all times, but celebrities don't have the same luxury. Because of that, wouldn't you think they would be extra cautious before getting inked?

Apparently not, because some of the most beloved actors, musicians and athletes have made more than questionable choices when it comes to permanent body art. These 10 famous people definitely did not think it through before going under the needle.

Louis Tomlinson

One Direction
’s Harry Styles usually gets all the credit for his wide collection of tattoos, but his bandmate Louis spent enough hours at the tat parlor, too. Only difference is: Louis’ tattoos are pretty hideous and look more like a pre-school kid’s paintings than anything a sane person would want to put on his body for eternity.

Our “favorite” pick: an awry cup of tea with the word “Oops!” under it. Oops indeed. But apparently the fans of the boyband embrace Louis’ weird sense of beauty — you can even buy an iPhone case that features all of the singer’s tattoos. Just please don't replicate them onto your body.

When the world considers you a sex symbol, your body is put under the media’s microscope on a daily basis.

But why would you want to put a bow tie right on top of your booty is a mystery not even Spy Kids (one of the franchises Alba graced with her presence) could solve.

Chris Brown

Surely tattoos aren’t the only bad decision on Chris Brown’s part, but let’s focus on those for a bit. The most notorious piece of art this man wears on his skin is surely a face of a woman on his neck, scarily reminiscent of Rihanna’s beaten face back from 2009.

Even though the singer denied that the tat was inspired by his ex and said it was an ode to the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, the tattoo is still shockingly unattractive.

Zosia Mamet

We totally adore Zosia Mamet for her style and acting skills, but the heart tattoo on her right hand is not something we can approve.

It looks like something Mamet’s Shoshanna from Girls would draw in her super-secret dream journal. She also has tattoos on both of her feet. The one of her left foot is an arrow design which screams “Urban Outfitters temporary tattoo” material to us.

Hayden Panettiere

Back in 2009 actress Hayden Panettiere wanted to impress the world with a) her carefree philosophy and b) her knowledge of Italian. That’s why she decided to put a huge writing on the side of her body that read “Vivere senza rimpianti,” meaning “To live without regrets.”

Regrets kicked in the moment she stepped out of tattoo parlor and realized that the artist misspelled the phrase, turning “rimpianti” into “rimipianti.” No wonder a couple of years later she began the process of removing the tat. Next time around please bring a dictionary for your artist.

Cheryl Cole

What does it take to turn a national sweetheart and beloved popstar into a laughing stock? One bad tattoo. Oh, let us fix that. One giant bad tattoo. British singer Cheryl Cole (also known as Cheryl Tweedy, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini or simply Cheryl) decided to put a huge array of red roses on her lower back side and, to quote her band Girls Aloud, “caused a controversy.” To this day Cheryl’s roses-covered butt is considered the worst celebrity tattoo decision.

Not that the singer cares for the world’s opinion. As she revealed on a TV show, she got the idea for the big-ass tattoo after she got seriously sick with malaria — it was part of her “everything I want to do” list. In case you actually like the design, you should note that it took three sessions to make and cost £14,000. And since Cheryl’s mostly endorsing hair and make-up products these days, her booty doesn’t get in the way of career opportunities.

David Beckham

Another victim of illiteracy is David Beckham, who had the best intentions of proving his loyalty to his wife and putting the name Victoria on his body. The twist? He opted to get it immortalized on his body in Hindi to make it more special.

His tattoo artist went an extra mile and added a special letter, misspelling the name and making it translate “Vihctoria.” If he really wanted to pay a tribute to his wife, he should’ve written “zig-a-zig-ah” instead.

Angelina Jolie

There’s a long list of poorly advised celebrities who put the names of loved ones on their bodies only to deal with the annoying process of getting the tats removed once the romance fizzles out.

Angelina Jolie had to get Billy Bob Thorton’s name off her shoulder after he left her heart and replace it with a new tattoo; Kaley Cuoco covered the date of her wedding with Ryan Sweeting on her back with a huge butterfly after divorce; Heidi Klum had to get rid of Seal’s name from her arm, and poor Eva Longoria got several tattoos that symbolized her devotion to ex-husband Troy Parker — she had their wedding date on her wrist as well as number 9 (Parker’s team number) on her neck. Both are gone since the couple separated.

Did you think soccer-inspired tattoos were exclusively reserved for drunk sports fans? Well, think again.

The most celebrated British redhead of recent times Ed Sheeran decided to put a huge lion on his chest in the name of English soccer team’s mascot.

J-Law can do no wrong… Or can she? Apparently she’s not that good with chemistry as the H2O sign on her hand is spelled incorrectly: 2 should be down and not up.

“I call this tattoo a watered-down rebellion,” she explained to HitFix at Comic-Con 2015. “I was with Liam’s family and everybody was getting tattoos. And I was like, ‘Well I’m always going to need to be hydrated.’ So I guess I should just get H2O on my hand.”
