Gisele Bundchen admits she’s responsible for Tom Brady’s insane diet

Tom Brady has credited his unconventional diet with allowing him to perform at a top level as he’s gotten older, extolling his diet’s virtues in interviews and releasing a nutrition manual/cookbook.

As it turns out, the Patriots quarterback’s switch to largely plant-based foods came at the behest of his wife, Gisele Bundchen.

The supermodel appeared on CBS This Morning Wednesday for an interview with Charlie Rose, where, along with claiming that her husband suffered a concussion last year, she admitted that Brady’s nutritional changes came from her.

“The thing is, he says he’s been feeling so much better,” Bundchen said of her husband’s dietary conversion. “It’s amazing the way he feels. He doesn’t feel achy, he just feels so much more energy.”

“Was this initiated by you?” Rose asked. “Did you influence how your house, and your husband, and your children feel about plant-based diet and other things? Does that come from Gisele?”

Bundchen initially played coy, giving Rose a knowing look and laughing, but eventually claimed responsibility.

“It does,” Bundchen said. “It has come from me.”

The family’s personal chef, Alan Campbell, told Boston.com last year that Brady’s food intake is 80 percent vegetables — though no tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, or eggplants, which Campbell said can cause inflammation. Other no-no’s include caffeine, dairy, olive oil, and iodized salt.

Rose joked that Brady had Bundchen to thank for his late-career performance, but she was unwilling to take credit.

“He has to thank his commitment, his dedication to it, because he still has to want to do it,” Bundchen said. “In the beginning, it was a little bit different for him, but now he loves it and he wouldn’t have it any other way because he feels better.”
